Researchers discovered astrocytes—long considered mere support cells—actively control fear memory formation, recall, and weakening by interacting with neurons. Manipulating astrocyte activity directly altered fear memory strength, opening pathways for new anxiety and PTSD treatments without pharmaceutical intervention.
