Amit Shah tables CAPF Bill reserving 50% senior posts for IPS

Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill 2026 in the Rajya Sabha. The umbrella law codifies that 50% of Inspector General posts and 67% of Additional Director General posts in all CAPFs will be filled by IPS officers on deputation. Retired CAPF officers have opposed the bill, calling it a reversal of a 2025 Supreme Court order that directed reducing IPS deputation.
